Why Climate Vets?
I initiated Climate Vets as a global network of veterinarians, students, biologists and other animal scientists, who are concerned about climate change and other environmental threats, and want to see more action taken on mitigating them.
I believe that we have a key role to play in educating and motivating the people around us on these issues. We’re among the few stakeholder groups with “societal permission” to place a high value on animal and environmental well-being, and this enables us to make a unique and important contribution to the discourse on these problems and their solutions.
Climate Vets is a work in progress. My hope is that we’ll educate and motivate each other to speak up and act in our own professional and personal communities. In the future we might collaborate in some acts of advocacy such as Op-Ed pieces or letters to policy makers. We may eventually decide to form an organization (similar to Doctors for the Environment or Union of Concerned Scientists), or it may be better to remain as an informal network.
